Canggu stretches along Bali’s southwest coast between Echo Beach and Batu Bolong, with Pererenan and Berawa filling in the gaps. What began as a handful of surf shacks is now one of the island’s busiest districts: beach clubs at sunset, co-working cafés in the rice fields, and a young international crowd that keeps the lane lights on late.
The draw is still the sea. Batu Bolong and Echo Beach pick up consistent swell, and the black-sand shoreline is the place to be as the sun drops behind the Indian Ocean. A few minutes inland you are back among paddies and family compounds. Tanah Lot, the sea temple on a rocky islet, is an easy west-coast add-on if you leave before the tour buses stack up.
The catch is the road. Jalan Pantai Batu Bolong and the Canggu–Seminyak corridor crawl for much of the afternoon. Parking near the beach is scarce. A private driver lets you skip the scooter squeeze, get dropped at the sand, and continue to a temple, a warung, or a villa in Pererenan without circling for a spot. Early pickups also make day trips to Ubud or the north coast realistic from a Canggu base.
