Kuta is still the first Bali that many travellers see: a long west-facing beach, a surf break close to shore, and Ngurah Rai International Airport a few minutes away in Tuban. It is louder and denser than Sanur or Ubud, but it remains a practical base for a first night, a last night, or a short trip that needs easy airport access.
The beach is the point. Late afternoon brings a wide stretch of sand, food stalls, and one of the island’s most reliable sunsets. Legian blends into Kuta to the north; to the south, the airport and Discovery Shopping Mall sit along the same coastal strip. Beachwalk and Jalan Legian cover shopping and restaurants. Waterbom is the family day out if you want a break from the waves.
Because Kuta sits at the bottom of Bali’s busiest road network, a driver earns their keep on almost any outing longer than a beach walk. Uluwatu temple and the Bukit’s beaches are a classic south loop. Ubud is doable if you leave early.
