Denpasar is Bali’s capital and the island’s everyday city — markets, government offices, residential kampung, and temples that locals actually use. Most visitors only see it from the Bypass on the way to the airport or Sanur. Give it a morning, though, and you get a different Bali: Puputan Square, the Bali Museum, Pura Jagatnatha, and the Bajra Sandhi Monument in the Renon civic park, built to honour Balinese resistance.
Pasar Badung and the surrounding textile streets are the practical heart of the city. Lumintang and Renon are greener and easier to walk. Denpasar is also the hub that connects Sanur, Kuta, and the roads north toward Gianyar, so a driver based here often knows every useful shortcut when a ceremony closes a main street.
Do not confuse the city with the airport. Ngurah Rai sits in Tuban, on the Kuta side of the south. A Denpasar driver is the right call for city temples, market runs, and hotel pickups in Renon or near Sanur’s western edge.
