Uluwatu sits on the southern tip of the Bukit Peninsula, where limestone cliffs drop straight into the Indian Ocean. Pura Luhur Uluwatu, one of Bali’s six key sea temples, is perched on the edge — come late afternoon for the sunset and the Kecak fire dance performed above the waves.
The area is also known for world-class surf breaks and hidden beaches such as Padang Padang, Bingin and Melasti. Roads here are narrow and spread out, so a local driver makes it easy to combine the temple, a beach and dinner in Jimbaran in one trip.
